Description
The SK-N-SH cell line was isolated from the brain tissue of a 4-year-old female patient with metastatic neuroblastoma. SK-N-SH cells are good transfection hosts and show longer doubling times and higher levels of dopamine-β-hydroxylase production. The modal chromosome number of this cell line is 47. The study found that the cell line was genetically female, with two X chromosomes. Further investigation revealed that the cell line exhibited acetylcholinergic, glutamatergic and adenosinergic as well as dopamine β-hydroxylase activity. Interestingly, the SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cell line exhibits neurite outgrowth through regulated differentiation, which makes these cells useful in neural pathway studies. To facilitate neuroblastoma research using this cell line, CD BioSciences offers a lipid-based transfection kit for the SK-N-SH cell line.
