Transfection Reagent for NTERA-2 Cells (Embryonal Carcinoma Cells, CRL-1973)

Product Information

Description

The NTera2 cell line, also referred to as NCCIT. It was first derived from a patient suffering from a malignant testicular germ cell tumor, and since then, it has been extensively employed in cancer research as a model for investigating testicular cancer biology, drug discovery, and the development of novel therapeutic approaches.

The NTera2 cells are not just a mere representation of a cancerous cell line; they have much more to offer. One of the most intriguing characteristics of these cells is their ability to differentiate into multiple cell lineages, such as neurons and glial cells, when subjected to retinoic acid treatment. They are also marked by the expression of pluripotency markers like OCT4 and NANOG and have a nearly diploid karyotype.

Researchers have leveraged the NTera2 cell line to study various facets of testicular cancer biology, including the mechanisms of tumor initiation and progression, the signaling pathways involved in germ cell differentiation and self-renewal, and the formulation of new therapeutic agents for germ cell tumors. But that's not all. This cell line has also been utilized as a model for studying stem cell biology and for testing the safety and effectiveness of drugs that target pluripotent stem cells. Interestingly, NTera2 cells have also been employed in neuroscience research, particularly to investigate neural differentiation and to delve deeper into the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases. It is noteworthy that CD BioSciences has crafted a lipid-based transfection kit that is optimized for use with NTERA-2 cells, which can be utilized for both transient transfection and the development of stable NTERA-2 cell lines. This kit is a go-to for many life sciences laboratory research studies.
