Description

MiaPaCa-2 is a highly sought-after pancreatic cancer cell line that was first obtained from the pancreas of a 65-year-old Caucasian male diagnosed with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. These cells are utilized extensively to investigate the biology of pancreatic cancer and to explore the potential of various therapeutic agents. MiaPaCa-2 cells display characteristics that are typical of pancreatic cancer, such as their ability to proliferate uncontrollably, resist apoptosis, and invade. Moreover, they can grow as adherent monolayers in vitro and generate tumors when transplanted into immunocompromised mice.

High expression levels of several markers of pancreatic cancer, such as mucin-1 and CA19-9, are observed in MiaPaCa-2 cells. Consequently, researchers have employed MiaPaCa-2 cells to study the molecular mechanisms that drive pancreatic cancer progression and metastasis. These cells have also been used to uncover the mechanisms that underlie drug resistance in pancreatic cancer, which is a significant hurdle to effective treatment.  In addition, MiaPaCa-2 cells are valuable for screening novel anticancer agents, including targeted therapies and chemotherapy drugs. Numerous studies utilizing MiaPaCa-2 cells have resulted in the development of several drugs currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of pancreatic cancer, such as nab-paclitaxel, erlotinib, and gemcitabine. To support research using the MIA PaCa-2 cell line, CD BioSciences offers a lipid-based transfection reagent kit for efficient genetic modification.
