Description
The HCN-1A cell line was derived from the hippocampus of a fetal brain and is a human cortical neuronal line. It was obtained from an 18-month-old female with intractable seizures who had undergone a hemispherectomy as part of her treatment. HCN-1A cells have the ability to differentiate and show mature morphology, although they exhibit slower growth rates. They are commonly used as a model system to study neuronal processes in scientific research. HCN-1A cells test positive for several neuronal markers, including somatostatin, glutamate, neuron-specific enolase, tubulin, vimentin, gamma-aminobutyric acid, vasoactive intestinal peptide, and cholecystokinin-8, while they test negative for glial fibrillary acidic protein and myelin. The differentiation of HCN-1A can be stimulated by culturing the cortical neuronal cells with a mixture of nerve growth factor, dibutyryl cyclic adenosine monophosphate, and 1-isobutyl-3-methylxanthine. The HCN-1A neuronal cell line is a vital tool in neurological research, particularly in transfection studies. CD BioSciences provides high-efficiency lipid-based transfection reagent kits specifically optimized for the HCN-1A cell line.
