Affinity purified VRL agglutinated rabbit blood cells with galactose specificity. The amino acid analysis of purified mung bean lectin by RP-HPLC showed that it contained the most glutamic acid, followed by aspartic acid and histidine, and had a good zinc-binding potential. The combination of VRL and zinc improves the overall stability and efficacy of lectins.
