Description

Violaxanthin deepoxidase (VDE) is part of the lutein (or violaxanthin) cycle and is used to control zeaxanthin concentrations in chloroplasts. This enzyme catalyzes a two-step single deepoxidation reaction. Zeaxanthin induces excitation energy dissipation in chlorophyll of the photoharvesting protein complex of photosystem II.
