Ulex europaeus lectin (UEA I) is coupled to ferritin and has a molecular weight of 474,000 g/mol (all 24 subunits bound). Ferritin-conjugated lectins can be used to visualize the localization of specific glycan fractions and to examine the distribution of plasma membrane glycoproteins. These conjugates can be visualized by electron microscopy.
