This lectin binds oligomers of n-acetylglucosamine and some bacterial cell wall oligosaccharides containing n-acetylglucosamine and n-acetylaminoacetic acid. While the binding specificity of carbohydrates is similar to that of wheat germ lectins and mandala lectins, some differences between potato lectins and other lectins have been reported. The biotinylated agglutinin binds the appropriate amount of biotin to provide the best staining properties for the agglutinin. This conjugate contains essentially no unconjugated biotin and is preserved with sodium azide.
