SAM (S-adenosylmethionine synthetase) is an enzyme catalyzed by methionine and ATP to produce S-adenosylmethionine. The whole synthesis reaction consists of two successive steps. It is a methyl donor in methylation reactions and is involved in many processes such as: response to cadmium ion and salt stress, and biosynthesis of ethylene and lignin.
