This lectin consists of two 60 kDa subunits that can be dissociated by a reducing agent into a closely related chain between 27 kDa and 33 kDa. One of these chains appears to be common to the B chain of ricin, another castor agglutinin, while the other chain is specific to RCA i. The B chain binds to galactose or n-acetylgalactosamine residues of the membrane glycoconjugate.
