Description

Rate-limiting step of CO2 fixation in photosynthesis catalyzed by Rubisco. The enzyme contains two subunits, each with eight copies. In plants and green algae, the large subunit of 55-kD is encoded by the chloroplast rbcL gene and the small subunit of 15-kD is encoded by a family of nuclear red cell genes.
