Description

The central component of the PSII reaction generates the REDOX potential required to drive the highly oxidizing water cracking reaction. Four Mn atoms exist on the surface of the lumen, forming the catalytic site of the water decomposition reaction, which is closely related to the 33 kDa (PsbO), 23 kDa (PsbP) and 17 kDa (PsbQ) exogenous subunits of OEC. A 33 kda foreign protein is also known as mn stable protein (MSP), but recent evidence suggests that it is the C-terminal domain of PsbA (D1) protein and is involved in the assembly and stabilization of OEC.
