Description

PsaD (PSI-D) is the core subunit of photosystem I and is highly conserved in all photosynthetic organisms, including bacteria with Fe-S type reaction centers. In eukaryotes, it is encoded by one or two nuclear genes and is introduced into the chloroplast as a precursor. In the thylakoid membrane, it binds to PsaA and PsaB at the core matrix site of PSI to form the fd docking site. PsaD is also required for stable assembly of PsaC.
