Additional information

POR is present in high amounts in chloroplasts not exposed to light (etioplasts),

Description

Chlorophyll is one of the most abundant natural pigments and plays an important role in the absorption of radiation energy in the photosynthesis of bacteria, algae and higher plants. Chlorophyll is the non-covalently bound component of the pigment-protein complex, the chloroplast-located light-harvesting antenna LHC and the photosynthetic reaction center of PSI and PSII. After light, chlorophyll biosynthesis stops, and the yellowed part of the plant and protochlorophyll lactone (Pchlide) are photoreduced to chlorophyll lactone (Chlide) under the catalysis of POR enzyme.
