Description

Rapeseed lectin or lectin (PSA) is a heterodimer composed of four subunits. It is carbohydrate specific to oligosaccharides containing mannose. Its blood coagulation activity can be inhibited by glucose, mannose and sucrose. It has no blood type specificity. The N-terminal sequence of this lectin has certain homology with the lectin of other legumes. Pisum sativum lectin has also been shown to have mitotic effects on mouse spleen cells and inhibit HIV-1 reverse transcriptase activity. PSA is often used to distinguish normal cells transformed by viruses. The activity requires calcium and manganese ions
