Pisum sativum lectin (PSA/PSL) is coupled to ferritin and has a molecular weight of 474,000 g/mol(all 24 subunits together). Ferritin binding lectins can be used to visualize the location of specific carbohydrate parts and to examine the distribution of plasma membrane glycoproteins. These conjugates can be observed by electron microscopy.
