Description

PGRL1 is a transmembrane protein found in higher plant and algal thylakoids. Arabidopsis plants lacking PGRL1 exhibit perturbations in ring electron transfer (CEF) around photosystem I (PSI), similar to plants lacking pgr5. PGRL1 has been shown to physically interact with PGR5 and correlate with PSI (DalCorso et al., 2008). In Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, PGRL1 is part of a protein supercomplex, The complex consists of PSI and its own photocollection complex (LHCI), Photosystem II photocollection complex (LHCII), cytochrome b6/f complex (Cyt b6f), and ferredoxin (Fd)-NADPH oxidoreductase (FNR). Responsible for the energy balance of the two photosystems and the switch between linear and cyclic electron transport in the thylakoids (Iwai et al., 2010). Synonym: iron oxidoregenin - plastinoquinone reductase
