Description

Lycopersicon esculentum lectin (LEL/LEA) isolated from tomato is specific to GlcNac. LEL consists of a stable subunit and is a useful marker for tracking the rodent vascular system and neuroscience studies. This lectin has an unusually high carbohydrate content of about 50% arabinose and galactose. LEL non-specifically agglutinates human red blood cells A, B, O, or AB. Red blood cells treated with proteases are slightly more sensitive to the agglutination of this lectin.
