Description

Lipoxygenase (lox; lipoxydases (EC 1.13.11.12, synonyms :lipoxydases) are a family of enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to lipid hydroperoxides (LOOHs), which are involved in stress responses. It has been found that LOXs plays an important role in plant growth, development and aging, and is activated under environmental stress (drought, heavy metals). Synonyms: linoleate, oxyoxidoreductase.
