Cy5 binds to Lotus Lectin (LTL) and can show the binding pattern of this lectin in cell imaging and flow cytometry. The excitation wavelength required for Cy5 fluorescence is high enough to avoid overlap with most other fluorescent dyes, making it useful for double labeling experiments. Because of this high excitation, biological specimens usually have less autofluorescent background.
