Description

The main light-collecting antenna complex II (LHCII) of photosynthetic eukaryotes is located on the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast. It is a heterotrimer complex composed of three different subtypes of chlorophyll a/b binding proteins Lhcb1, Lhcb2 and Lhcb3. Lhcb2 is typically encoded by several nuclear genes and, together with Lhcb1, is found in mobile LHCII trimers involved in the stat1-stat2 transition. The molecular characterization of the LHCII protein can be found in Caffarri et al. (2004). "LHCII: Differential analysis of the Lhcb1-3 complex for Constructing the main trimer antenna complex for photosynthesis in Higher Plants". Biochemistry 43(29): 967-976.
