Description

Hsp16.6 belongs to a family of small heat shock proteins. Once the cells are stressed with a temperature increase, they are induced. Synechocystis Hsp16.6 is involved in the development of heat tolerance and thylakoid stability. The way in which small heat shock proteins protect living cells is not fully understood. They appear to be involved in the function of chaperone proteins by protecting other proteins from irreversible degeneration.
