HDT3 may mediate the deacetylation of the n-terminal lysine residues of core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). Histone deacetylation provides a label for epigenetic inhibition that plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental events. The protein is also involved in the regulation of abscisic acid and stress response genes. Synonyms: HD-twin protein 3, histone deacetylase 2c
