Description

Histone is the main component of chromosome protein in eukaryotic cells. They are rich in the amino acids arginine and lysine, which have been highly conserved during evolution. Histones wrap DNA into tight clumps of chromatin. The two core histones of each class H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 are assembled and wrapped by 146 base pairs of DNA to form an octamer nucleosome. Phosphorylation of H3S10 is associated with mitosis.
