Green fluorescent protein (GFP), originally discovered in the photoorgan of the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, is a naturally occurring fluorescent protein that emits green light with a maximum wavelength of 509 nm when excited by blue or ultraviolet light. It is widely used in the laboratory as a reporter molecule for the labeling and study of cellular and subcellular proteins in living cells, and has a wide range of applications. The molecular weight of GFP protein is 27 kDa. DyLight 594 has an Amax = 593 nm and an Emax = 618 nm. DyLight is a registered trademark of Thermofisher Inc. and its subsidiaries.
