Description

Green fluorescent protein (GFP) is originally found in the light organs of the jellyfish (Aequorea victoria). It is a naturally occurring fluorescent protein that, when excited by blue or ultraviolet light, emits green light with a maximum wavelength of 509 nanometers. It is widely used in the laboratory as a reporter molecule for labeling and studying cellular and subcellular proteins in living cells, with a wide range of uses. GFP protein antibodies are used in western blotting and ELISA. The molecular weight of GFP protein is 27 kDa.
