Additional information

Both FtsH2 (VAR2) and FtsH8 share high degree of homology therefore this antibody recognizes both proteins

Description

FtsH belongs to the ATP-dependent peptidase family. In chloroplast positioning has the following subtypes: FTSH1 (synonyms for AAA, FTSH FTSH protease 1), Ftsh2 (VAR2, vargated 2), FtsH5 (VAR1, vargated 1), FtsH6 FTSH protease (6), FtsH7, FtsH8. FtsH9. The following subtypes are localized in mitochondria :FtsH3, FtsH4, FtsH10, FtsH11. FtsH2 (VAR2) is a component of ATP-dependent zinc metallopeptidase. It is involved in the biogenesis of thylakoids and repair of damaged D1 subunits in photosystem II, a process that prevents cell death under bright light conditions. VAR1 transcription and protein levels increase with increasing light intensity and form complexes with VAR1. The mutants exhibit a variegated phenotype that decreases during development.
