Description

Ergotamine is a secondary metabolite (natural product) and main alkaloid produced by Claviceps purpurea and its related fungi. It has structural similarities to several neurotransmitters and has biological activity as a vasoconstrictor. It is used medically to treat acute migraine attacks (sometimes in combination with caffeine) and to induce labor and prevent postpartum bleeding.
