Description
Deg2 proteases belong to the serine protease family. An analysis of the Arabidopsis genome found 14 genes coding for members of the Deg family. At least four Deg proteases (Deg1, Deg2, Deg5, and Deg8) target chloroplasts. Deg2 is peripherally attached to the stromal side of the thylakoid membrane. In vitro studies, recombinant protein Deg2 cleaved D1 protein after intense light irradiation.
