Affinity purified canavalin A (ConA) consists of two identical subunits and contains 237 amino acid residues (molecular weight :26000, without any cystine residues). At pH above 7, it is mostly tetramer, and at pH 4.5-5.6, Con A binds to two metal ions: the transition metal, Mn2+ and Ca2+.
