Description

Calcopene-3 encodes a calcium-binding protein whose mRNA is induced under NaCl, ABA, and dry conditions. mRNA expression is particularly evident in leaves and flowers under drought conditions. Keratored isomer that acts as a peroxidase involved in the metabolism of oxylipids during biological and abiotic stress processes. Involved in the production of 2-hydroxy-octadecatrienoic acid. Peroxidase has a narrow substrate specificity and therefore acts in vivo as a fatty acid peroxide reductase. Protection against fungal pathogens has been proven. The expression is very low in young leaves and high in senescent leaves.
