Clathrin is a protein involved in intracellular transport and plays an important role in the formation of coated vesicles. It consists of 3 clathrin heavy chains and 3 light chains. Clathrin-coated vesicles (CCVS) selectively sort cargo for multiple membrane transport routes in cell membranes, trans-Golgi networks, and endosomal compartments.
