Fructose-1,6 diphosphate aldolase (ALD) is an enzyme that catalyzes a key reaction in glycolysis and energy production, converting d-fructose-1, 6-diphosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate and d-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. This enzyme is found in plant and animal tissues. Plant enzymes are a class of aldolase that do not require bivalent metal cofactors. It is located outside the mitochondrial membrane.
