Introduction | Integrins are α/β heterodimeric cell surface receptors that play a pivotal role in cell adhesion and migration, as well as in growth and survival. The integrin family contains at least 18 α and 8 β subunits that form 24 known integrins having distinct tissue distribution and overlapping ligand specificities. Integrins not only transmit signals to cells in response to the extracellular environment (outside-in signaling), but also sense intracellular cues to alter their interaction with extracellular environment (inside-out signaling). |

Specificity | Monoclonal antibody MAB2076Z, raised by immunizing beta6 knockout mice with recombinant secreted human alphavbeta6, is useful for flow cytometry and immunoprecipitation in all species tested, including mouse. It also works well for immunohistochemistry of acetone-fixed tissues in several species, including rat, rabbit, monkey, and human. The antibody does not work well for immunohistochemistry of mouse tissue. This antibody does not recognize the aV subunit and does not react with alphaV integrins other than alphavbeta6. Because the antibody is not effective in Western Blot, it is unknown whether the epitope recognized by the antibody localizes to the alphavbeta6 heterodimer or to the beta6 subunit only. |
