This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported. A BLAST analysis was used to suggest cross-reactivity with IL-1F5 from dog and mouse sources based on 94% identity with the immunizing sequence. Partial reactivity is expected against horse based on 91% homology, and to human, chimpanzee, macaque, and rat based on 90% homology with the immunizing sequence. |
